ABOUT

Emelia Patterson is an artist from Austin, Texas that works mainly with drawing and painting, but other mediums such as printmaking, ceramics, and photography interest her as well. She also has an interest in storytelling, and would enjoy being a storyboard artist or an illustrator in the future.

Emelia enjoys using bright colors and sharp imagery to convey her ideas, and often works very small to be able to control tight details more easily. This often causes her work to look industrial, and print-like. Clean shapes and thought out color palettes are the most characteristic elements of her work.

She enjoys looking for inspiration from real life imagery, but often doesn’t use reference images as a way to forcefully abstract the images. She also enjoys pulling from animation or packaging design for inspiration. Most pieces do not have a hidden meaning, and are often created solely from want to see a certain image come to life. Light humor is a more common theme amongst the works.

Some artists that provide inspiration for Emelia are Egon Schiele, Catherine Kehoe, Carson Ellis, and Etal Adnan. These all have influenced her to varying degrees, from doing master copies to just simply enjoying the similarities between their styles.
